2019
This photo was taken at the 2019 engineering design show. I am on the left-hand side holding the laptop.
Our design project was to make an autonomous machine that could deliver blocks to specific locations as fast as possible within design restrictions. We then raced our machines at the design show.
Our machine was successful at the task but not the fastest on the day.
I am extremely grateful to have received the Geoff Walsh Memorial Scholarship, which has helped incredibly to lighten the financial strains of being a student. As I’m sure you’re all aware, textbooks and academic resources cost a small fortune and having the support of the scholarship has been a huge advantage. I’d like to thank the Scholarship Committee and the HVE, it has felt like an extremely warm welcome to the industry. This year, Modern Transport Engineering has helped me start on the path of becoming a heavy vehicle engineer, which will be the realization of a goal many years in the making.
I am extremely excited about the future of the transport industry and innovation that will be required to achieve New Zealand’s zero emission targets. This is an area of interest to me and as I progress through my career, I hope to be involved in this work. I hope to share more about this topic and express my gratitude in person at an HVE conference in 2021.
