2021
Following my graduation (BEngTech Mechanical) and the completion of my first working year as a Graduate Engineer at Universal Engineering LTD, I had decided to further my engineering knowledge by pursuing a career as a Heavy Vehicle Engineer.
I had come to this decision after speaking with many locals working within the transport industry who had described Gisborne’s repair and certification process as lengthy, stressed and ultimately understaffed.
… Eager to start and address these issues, I began searching for mentorship within Gisborne region only to find it was exceptionally hard to come by. Whilst I searched for a mentor, I signed up for the TTMF manufacture certifiers course as I thought it may be beneficial in securing mentorship.
The Geoff Walsh Memorial Scholarship has had a significant impact on my career path by enabling me financially to attend the TTMF Manufacture Certifiers Course and ultimately become appointed as a Vehicle Inspector.
My knowledge of heavy vehicles has significantly increased over the past year. I have also had the pleasure of working with, and talking to, many knowledgeable and experienced individuals working within the heavy vehicle industry. I believe I’m now in a much better position to secure mentorship and move forward with my studies to become a Heavy Vehicle Engineer.
None of this would have been possible without the financial aid provided by this scholarship. I would like to express my greatest thanks to the HVE Group and those who contributed towards this scholarship’s funding.
